José Horácio Costa Aboudib Jr.

The son of José Horácio Costa Aboudib and Dora Vieira Aboudib, José Horácio Costa Aboudib Jr. was born on March 6, 1953, in the city of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim in the State of Espírito Santo.

He graduated in Medicine from the University of Brasília (UnB) in 1976. A few years later, in 1997, the newly graduated physician completed a Master’s in Plastic Surgery at the University of São Paulo (USP), followed by a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) in 2014, after successfully defending his “Epidemiological Study of Patients Submitted to Buttock Augmentation Gluteoplasty”-titled final paper.

Shortly before concluding his Residency in General Surgery in 1978, Dr. Aboudib Jr. ranked first in the admissions exam for Professor Ivo Pitanguy’s Specialization Program in Plastic Surgery.

In October 1983, he would pass another public admissions test – again, in first place – to serve as an Assistant Teaching Professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ).

Dr. Aboudib Jr. held the position of President of the Rio de Janeiro Section of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery for the 2000-2001 term, during which time he led efforts to host the Jornadas Cariocas events, a series of Rio de Janeiro-held congresses on the subject. From 2006 to 2007, in turn, he was appointed as the aforementioned institution’s Scientific Director, at which time he was tasked with organizing all of the society’s events.

The acknowledged surgeon also chaired the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP) from 2012 to 2013, when he was responsible for organizing the 2013 Brazilian Congress attended by 2,500 people, which broke attendance records for plastic surgery events at the time.

In addition, Dr. Aboudib Jr. was appointed as Associate Coordinator of the postgraduate program in Pathophysiology and Surgical Sciences.

The surgeon is also highly distinguished in the realm of scientific publications, with over 300 participations in conferences and roundtable discussions, more than 60 academic papers published, 15 book chapters on the subject and, finally, a self-penned book targeted for the general public titled “Você e a Cirurgia Plástica” (“You and Plastic Surgery”).

In 1994, Dr. Aboudib Jr. was honored with the Pedro Ernesto Medal of Merit conferred by the City Council of Rio de Janeiro, and in 2008, with the Title of Honorary Citizen of the same city, in recognition of his relentless dedication to Rio’s population.

Upon running for full membership at the Academia Nacional de Medicina (National Academy of Medicine – ANM), Dr. José Horácio Costa Aboudib Jr. submitted a dissertation by the name of “Anatomical Foundations for Facial Rejuvenation Surgery.”
