Aderbal Magno Caminada Sabrá

Aderbal Magno Caminada Sabrá was born on October 13, 1941, in Niterói in the State of Rio de Janeiro, to Jamil Miguel Sabrá and Nilce Caminada Sabrá. 

He graduated in Medicine from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF) in 1967 and later went on to obtain his doctorate degree in Pediatrics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). To complete his education, Dr. Sabrá finished three postdoctoral programs in the United States, namely, at the University of Colorado in 1974, the Wayne State University in 1985, and at Georgetown University in 2006. 

Dr. Sabrá holds the position of Academic Coordinator at the Universidade do Grande Rio (Unigranrio) Medical School, where he conducts research studies in the areas of infectious diarrhea, clinical immunopathology, and allergy. He was involved in the Unigranrio work group tasked with establishing the institution’s Medical School and was responsible for drafting the course syllabus. 

The physician also served as a Full Member of Pediatrics at the Petrópolis Medical School in the State of Rio de Janeiro until 1985, at which time he passed a diploma-based civil exam to start working as a Pediatrician at UFF. 

Furthermore, Dr. Sabrá held the position of Adjunct Professor at UFRJ from 1970 to 2006, during which time he taught classes on Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology. In addition, he served as Head of Department at the Martagão Gesteira Institute of Child Care and Pediatrics (IPPMG), while simultaneously conducting research studies in the field.

Dr. Sabrá is a Visiting Scientist and Senior Staff Member at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of Immunology (ICISI) at Georgetown University. He also holds specialization certificates in both Pediatrics and Food Allergy, and in recognition of his achievements in these fields, he was granted the titles of Fellow in Pediatric Gastroenterology by the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Fellow in Immunology at Georgetown University’s ICISI. 

Furthermore, the renowned physician was in charge of the Allergology and Gastroenterology program at the Polyclinic of Duque de Caxias, a district of Rio de Janeiro.  

Dr. Sabrá pursued his academic studies at UFRJ, where he had the privilege of becoming the institution’s first Exclusive Pediatrician. He amassed the positions of Head of Department and Academic Coordinator at both UFRJ and the Petrópolis Medical School. In the latter, he oversaw the college’s undergraduate program, whereas at UFRJ he led the institution’s graduate program in Pediatrics, a position he held for a total of 15 years.  

He pursued his academic career at UFRJ, where he served as its first Exclusive Pediatrician. He also fulfilled the roles of Head of Department and Academic Coordinator both at UFRJ and at the Faculty of Medicine of Petrópolis. In addition, he was the Coordinator of the Pediatrics Postgraduate Program at UFRJ, a position he held for 15 years.

While running for a Full Member position at the Academia Nacional de Medicina (National Academy of Medicine – ANM), Dr. Sabrá submitted a dissertation by the name of “A Contribution to Studies on the Immunological Response in Pediatric Patients Suffering From Food Allergies: Evidence of the Non-IgE Immunological Mechanism.”
