Fabio Biscegli Jatene

Fabio Biscegli Jatene was born on March 20, 1955, in the city of São Paulo. 

In 1978, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of ABC (FMABC) in the city of Santo André in the State of São Paulo, and afterwards, secured a Ph.D. as well as the position of Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo (USP) School of Medicine. 

Dr. Jatene’s many accolades and titles include Full Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP), Member of the University of São Paulo Hospital das Clínicas (HCFMUSP) university hospital complex’s Decision-Making Body, and Associate Dean at the FMUSP Cardiopulmonary Department. In addition, he served as Vice-President and General Director of the Heart Institute (InCor) of the University of São Paulo Hospital das Clínicas university hospital network and conducts clinical and research activities in the field of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.  

In 1996, the recognized physician and Academician devised and inaugurated the Cardiothoracic Surgery League (LCCT), an institution under the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation’s Science Department of the University of São Paulo School of Medicine (FMUSP). The purpose of the League is to introduce the subject of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery to academicians pertaining to several State of São Paulo medical schools, as well as foster a host of scientific activities. Dr. Jatene contributes as an Editor or Member at several institutions, namely the Editorial Board of the Heart Surgery Forum, Brazilian Archives of Cardiology, Brazilian Journal of Pulmonology, and Brazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery (BJCVS). Additionally, he serves as Coordinator at the Technical Chamber of the Brazilian Medical Association Guidelines Project and Reviewer-Advisor to the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
